PowerPoint templates in UiO's new design were launched in 2021. These are now the official PowerPoint templates for the University of Oslo. The templates are not downloadable as they were before, but are integrated in PowerPoint on your UiO-powered PC and Macs.
On this page you find information on how you use the templates, guidelines for creating an accessible presentation and information about image sizes in the templates.
How to find and use UiO's templates in PowerPoint
- Open PowerPoint on your UiO-powered computer.
- Choose "Ny/New".
- The opening screen presents different categories of templates; click on the tab that says "Delt/Shared" on some computers, "Universitetet i Oslo/University of Oslo" on others. Choos between Norwegian and English version.
- When you have selected your language, you can choose between one general template for UiO and one for centres.
- If you work at a faculty, institute or administrative unit, select the template for UiO. You'll be able to chose the name of your unit from a drop-down menu in the template (se further instructions for this below).
- If you work at a centre, select the template called "UiO Senter/UiO Centre". This template does not contain a drop-down menu for unit names, so you'll enter the name of your centre manually.
- After you select one of the two templates, your presentation will be created with a single front page. You can add more slides from the drop-down menu under "nytt lysbilde/new slide", which contains a wide variety of layouts and options.
How to set up a front page for a faculty or institute
- If you have selected the "UiO" template, the default is a front page with "University of Oslo" on top.
- If you work at a faculty or institute, open the drop-down menu under "New slide" and choose your perferred version of "Front page faculty" or "Front page institute".
- When you have picked your frontpage and added it as slide number two in your presentation, you'll find the name of your unit in the drop-down menu under the main tabs "UiO Norsk/UiO Engelsk". Click on the name of your faculty, and it will be added on top of the font page you chose as your second slide. Finally, delete the original front page slide.
- When your front page is all set, you can continue to create your presentation as you normally do in PowerPoint.
How to change background colours
- Colour alternatives are available in the menu under the main tabs "UiO Norsk/UiO Engelsk".
How to create an accessible PowerPoint presentation
The University of Oslo must meet accessibility requirements. When it comes to PowerPoint presentations, this means following certain requirements on font sizes, images and colour combinations. We summarise the most important guidelines here.
Note that all documents published on uio.no, in Canvas or in Inspera must meet the accessibility standards.
Fonts and font sizes
- Use a clean and clear font, such as Arial.
- Preferably use font size 24 or larger, and no smaller than 18.
Setup and layout
- Keep each slide simple: Avoid a lot of text and many elements
- Use punctuation to make the content easy to read.
- Give each slide a title.
Images
- Avoid placing text directly on images.
- Always include an alternative text that describes the image (right click + "edit alt-text").
- Avoid using images of text.
Colours
- Ensure good contrast between background colour and font. Here you find an overview of universal design approved colour combinations based on UiO's colour profile (in Norwegian)
- Avoid using colours as the only meaningful element in graphs: preferably supplement with lines or shading to make the graphs easy for everyone to interpret.
Image sizes for the template
The templates contain some images, but these can be substituted if you wish. You'll find suitable images in the image archive (log in with your UiO user credentials).
