Nicola Dibben is a professor and director of research at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Sheffield. She is also a visiting professor at the University of Graz and at Stanford, and has been the editor of Popular Music and Empirical Musicology Review.
Dibben studies how people engage with music and what this engagement means for how they think about and make sense of themselves and the world. With a rare combination of high quality and methodological breadth, she has published extensively on musicology, music psychology and popular music. She has been published in journals both in humanities and music psychology, demonstrating her ability to approach topics from different perspectives.
Dibben's contributions include studies of the effect of music on driving and a collaboration with the artist Bj?rk on her multimedia app/album Biophilia (2011). Dibben's article on Bj?rk was one of the first articles on popular music to be accepted by the traditional journal Music Analysis.
Dibben is a member of RITMO's scientific council and has served on evaluation panels for the Research Council of Norway and UIO: Life Sciences.
