Secure bicycle parking pilot
The University of Oslo is testing new solutions for secure bicycle parking on campus. And we need your feedback!
Bicycle lockers and smart bike racks
We have now installed 12 secure bicycle lockers on the parking lot between Villa Eika and Lucy Smiths hus and a total of 28 lockers on the parking lot in front of Fysikkbygningen, 24 for regular bikes and 4 for cargo bikes. Every time you book a locker, the first 12 hours are free. After this, it costs 10 kroner per hour.
In the bike shed next to Eilert Sundts hus, we have installed 20 smart bike racks, which all have an integrated security alarm. You can lock and unlock them with your UiO card or using an app on your phone. The bike racks are free to use.
We rely on feedback directly from those who bike to Blindern. We welcome all comments, whether it's criticism or praise.
A pilot project
As part of UiO's work on climate, environment, and sustainability, we aim to better accommodate cyclists, pedestrians, and public transport users. One of the action points described in the Action Plan for Climate, Environment, and Sustainability for 2024-2025 outlines the installment of secure and temperature-controlled bicycle parking at Blindern and T?yen.
The new secure bicycle lockers and smart bicycle racks are a pilot project intended to test new solutions for secure bicycle parking on campus.
We will test these solutions for at least six months. In the spring of 2025, we will analyse the usage, evaluate, and make adjustments.
How to use the bicycle lockers
- Download Bikely's app from App Store (apps.apple.com) or Google Play (play.google.com) and register as a user.
- Find your location and reserve a bicycle locker in the app. You can book a locker one hour in advance.
- Click "unlock" in the app to open the locker and press the button on the locker to confirm. Press the button lightly, there is no need to press and hold. It should now flash green.
- Park your bicycle and close the locker. You may need to back your bike in to make it fit. You can open and close the locker multiple times during the rental period.
- Unlock and end the session in the app to conclude the rental period.
The first 12 hours of your booking are free. After this, it costs 10 kroner per hour. The maximum storage time is seven days. After this period, the bicycle will be collected and handed over to the Landscape Services, who will store it for three months.
