Occuptional vaccines

The Occupational Health Service Unit (BHT) receives orders for relevant groups that are to be vaccinated in annual action plans for the units' use of BHT's services. BHT carries out the vaccination, the employer pays all expenses.

Why?

The employer shall, on the basis of a risk assessment, offer vaccination to its employees.

The University of Oslo has employees who work with human material such as blood and blood products, employees who work with plumbing tasks, gardeners in parks, and employees who work in the field both in Norway and abroad who will be covered by this. Relevant vaccines in this context are: hepatitis A + B, polio, diphtheria, tetanus, and TBE.

The vaccination offer for each person depends on:

  • What types of work tasks the individual has
  • Which infectious substances can occur in the work environment
  • Degree of infection pressure based on risk assessment and quality of other infection prevention routines at the unit
  • What vaccines the individual has received before
  • The employee's state of health

How is this done?

After receiving a list from the employer about which employees are relevant in relation to vaccination, BHT sends a written offer of vaccination to the individual employee. It is voluntary for the employee to accept the offer. Affected workers are provided with information on the pros and cons of being vaccinated.

Preparation at the unit

The employer is responsible for ensuring that vaccines are implemented/offered to the university's employees in the mentioned groups. Orders for vaccination should mainly be made at the annual order meeting of OHSU's services between the units and OHSU.
