The Life Sciences Building will be tested to be ready for occupancy

The move into the Life Sciences Building will begin in the second quarter of 2026. Until then, the building will be tested by its future users to make necessary adjustments.

The moving period is planned to last from the second quarter of 2026 through the first quarter of 2027.

According to the plan, the occupancy will take place in the following order:

  • Occupancy step 1 - Fields 4-6 - second quarter 2026
  • Occupancy step 2 - Fields 7-8 - third quarter 2026
  • Occupancy step 3 - Fields 1-3 - first quarter 2027

A detailed moving plan will be ready by the summer of 2025.

The building will be tested before occupancy

Testing and moving into the building will be planned and executed simultaneously. UiO is responsible for conducting two types of tests of the building:

  • Functional test: Tests how specific parts of the building's functions operate in actual use, based on user needs and work processes.
  • Operational test: Intended to verify that work processes, user functions, and the technical environment meet the user's needs and project objectives.

This way, mistakes and deficiencies can be identified before the building is put into use, allowing for adjustments.

A test plan is to be established in the second and third quarters of 2025. Functional tests will continue throughout 2026. Operational tests will occur closer to the time of use and occupancy, but planning begins now.

Employees participate in the test groups

Use groups (in Norwegian “Ibruktakelsesgrupper (IG-grupper)”) will be created to help test the building. Employees will take part in these groups. Use groups will be formed by March 2025.

The groups will work with defined areas, describe relevant work processes, and create tests that align with the activities intended for the spaces.

The work is led by the Life Sciences Building's reception project, which assembles the groups in dialogue with the academic communities. The process typically spans 3-5 weeks, with 2-4 work meetings and some work on documents and descriptions in between the meetings.

The use groups are organized based on the existing reference user groups (in Norwegian “referansebrukergrupper (RG-grupper”).
