Why is my name changed?
On the transition to a new payroll and financial system, names from the National Population Register are now imported into UiO’s IT services. This means that your name in the National Population Register is loaded to your online personal profile, and in the email client and most other IT services.
Previously, this information was loaded from a local system and was based on the name you used when you were appointed by UiO.
Your old email address will still work
If your name is changed, your primary email address (the email address that appears as the sender when you send an email) will also be affected, as this will be derived from your name.
For example, if you were previously registered with your first and last name and had the primary email address first name.last name@enhet.uio.no, and you are now registered with a middle name, your new primary address might be f.m.last name@enhet.uio.no, or something similar.
Even if you get a new email address, your old address will still work if it is used to contact you.
Remove a middle name
If you want to remove parts of your name used in the National Population Register, e.g. a middle name, you can do this yourself.
At brukerinfo.uio.no, you can select among a few different versions of your name in a drop-down menu. Your email address is derived from your name and might be affected by which version of your name you choose. Even if you get a new primary email address, your old email address will still work if someone uses it to send you email.
The name version you choose will apply in most IT systems and will among other things be displayed on your online personal profile, Feide services, your office computer, Teams and Outlook.
NB: Once you have done this, you will have overridden your displayed name, so that it will not be updated if, for example, you change your name in the National Population Register. You will then need to change your name again at brukerinfo.uio.no.

Do you want to change your personal profile to a different name?
If you want to change your displayed name to a name that differs from your name in the National Population Register, this must be approved by your immediate manager.
Once the name change has been approved by your manager, you can change/override the name displayed on your online personal profile yourself.
When you override the import of your name, you also override the import of personal data to your personal profile:
- Job title
- Office address
- Postal address
- Phone number
- Mobile phone number
If you override the import of your name, this information will not be retrieved automatically for your personal profile either. You will then be responsible for keeping this up to date yourself.
How to change your name in your personal profile
- Enter the personal profile’s edit mode
- Select no to using personal data (prim?re kontaktopplysninger) registered in UiO's payroll and personnel system
- Fill in personal data and save
Remember to update both your Norwegian and English personal profiles and inform your local web editor about the changes you made.
