A hindrance to cleanliness and accessibility
When bicycles and scooters are brought indoors, they carry dust and dirt with them, resulting in an increased need for cleaning while also being a hindrance to the cleaners. Moreover, they contribute to wear and tear on the floors and walls, leading to increased maintenance costs. All areas must always be accessible to everyone, and evacuation routes must be kept clear. During an evacuation, all corridors serve as escape routes, and obstructing bicycles and scooters can hinder people from exiting the buildings.
If this rule is not followed, the Estate Department will remove bicycles and scooters found indoors. They will be placed at the nearest bicycle parking facility, along with their bicycle locks, or handed over to Landscape Services, who will store them for three months. If your bicycle is removed, the Estate Department will leave a note with information about retrieval. Please contact Estate Services if you have any questions.
Bicycle racks and parking under roof
UiO can accommodate 3,000 bicycles, with 2,000 bicycle racks located at Blindern. There are also several locked parking facilities under cover, which you can find more information about bicycle racks on the “For employees” pages here.
This autumn, the Estate Department will upgrade the bicycle parking facilities between Fysikkbygningen and Kjemibygningen with a bollard wall and doors only accessible with an employee card. The project is set to be completed during the autumn semester and will provide bicycle racks that can accommodate approximately 54 regular bikes and six cargo bikes. In addition to this, the Estate Department is currently evaluating three pilot projects for locked bicycle parking under cover at Villa Eika, Fysikkbygningen and Eilert Sundts hus.
