Consequences of the construction of the New National Hospital (Oslo University Hospital – Rikshospitalet)

In the beginning of May, excavation work will block walkways to Domus Medica (DM)

Overview produced by the Norwegian Hospital Construction Agency of the excavation work outside Domus Medica

As early as in the beginning of May, excavation work will start on the west side of Domus Medica, (between DM and Gaustad stream), on the south side of DM (between DM and the Ring Road) and also in towards the southeast corner of DM4. The excavation work may also involve some blasting. Here is a map produced by the Norwegian Hospital Construction Agency’s project group showing the planned route of the excavation trench.

In September, digging begins for the drainage system, which will temporarily collect stormwater in order to protect the surrounding buildings from flood damage, over the entire area between the walkway west of Domus Medica and down towards Gaustad stream. This work will result in noise and possibly the rerouting of pedestrian traffic to DM and the National Hospital. In order to reduce the noise level, the Norwegian Hospital Construction Agency is considering building a scaffolding between DM and the areas to be excavated.

We will keep you updated on an ongoing basis as and when we receive more information about construction work that will have consequences for us. Those interested can consult the project’s phase plan (in norwegian only) for more information
