In 2023, the faculty refrained from integrating its local IT departments into the new IT department at UiO because it was unclear what this would entail. A working group was established by the faculty management to assess the situation.

Recommendation for Full Integration
The working group has now delivered its twofold recommendation, which has also been approved and supported by the dean: Paths for a Potential Integration of the Faculty of Medicine's IT Departments with the IT Department at the University of Oslo (pdf document in Norwegian).
The pros and cons of two options were considered. Option 1: full integration of MED-IT into the IT department, and Option 2: partial integration. The recommendation was to proceed with Option 1, provided that certain conditions are met before the integration.
The report has been forwarded to UiO's IT department with a request to develop a funding model. The institutes have been asked to contribute to the development of the contractual basis.
MED's Needs and Concerns Were Assessed
The working group's task was to identify and illuminate all relevant questions, concerns, and needs from MED regarding a potential integration. They were also to identify the specific benefits, potential challenges, and added value of integration for both MED and the IT department.
The composition of the working group ensured good dialogue between MED and the IT department, as well as sharing of experiences with other units that have already integrated their IT services. The report and recommendation provided by the working group address the needs of MED while also considering the IT department's overall goals.
