Dear colleagues,
The Research Council of Norway has announced NOK 850 million in funding for four to six AI centres. The centres will launch in 2025 and will run for five years.
Prospective applicants and partners can attend a meeting at the RCN on 25 April to find out more. Please register if you are considering initiating or contributing to an application.
UiO is mapping its own initiatives
UiO is in the process of mapping the initiatives available to support applications and facilitate the coordination and alignment of initiatives. MED applicants therefore need to submit a preliminary outline to med-funding@medisin.uio.no by 29 April, with a copy for their department management team. Templates can be found in the Funding Opportunities newsletter. The link has been included below. Prospective applicants can continue to work on the outline until the RCN deadline on 7 June.
Proposed contributions to applications
An alternative to submitting an application outline would be to submit proposals for specific activities/work packages that could be relevant to an application. The Faculty will seek to coordinate input to try to ensure that our MED communities are included in one or more applications.
Ambitious goals
The new AI centres aim to be at the forefront of AI, solving real-world problems that are of practical value to society and business, promoting interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral collaboration both nationally and internationally and utilising strong partners from various fields, research institutions, business and the public sector.
The announcement is in keeping with the UiO 2030 Strategy and the UiO’s development agreement with the Ministry of Education and Research. UiO therefore seeks to ensure a coordinated process in order to contribute to mobilisation and inspire collaboration across relevant academic communities.
Yours sincerely, Jan
