Dear esteemed colleagues,
Autumn is progressing. This week, we have had visitors from Sydney and UiT to discuss collaboration in teaching and research. See picture below.
Last week, we conducted a successful and useful emergency preparedness exercise at the University of Oslo, with two teams facing different challenges.
Budget work on the agenda
After several years of increasing budget allocations to universities and colleges, a flattening/decrease is expected in the coming years.
The financial frameworks of the faculties have in recent years been affected by, among other things, budget cuts, increased rent, costs associated with upgrades, and price and wage increases.
For the faculty, it is important to manage and prioritise well to handle the financial situation the faculty is in at any given time.
The management team is therefore working on budget planning for the entire faculty both in the short and long term, so that we can fulfil our societal mission in the best possible way within the available resources. For the faculty, the overall financial situation is under control, and the focus moving forward is to ensure predictability and a sustainable economy.
Site inspection of the Life Sciences building
The steering committee for the Life Sciences Building at the University of Oslo (UiO) has conducted a site inspection of the facility, led by project managers from Statsbygg and the director of the sub-department for the reception of the Life Sciences Building, Estate Department, UiO.
The faculties that will occupy the building were represented by Faculty Director Eva Helene Mjelde from the MN Faculty, Research Dean Janne Reseland from the OD Faculty, and myself as Dean of the MED Faculty.
We were impressed by the complex building, which offers fantastic research opportunities moving forward. The project is on schedule, and occupancy is planned for 2026.

Don't miss the Researcher Grand Prix finals
The local final of the Researcher Grand Prix on 25 September is fully booked, but you can follow the event via stream. The two best candidates will progress to the national final, which will be held on Saturday, 28 September, at the old Eldorado cinema in Oslo. Solveig Kloppen will be the host. The national final will be streamed on forskning.no.
Best regards, Hanne
