Dear esteemed colleagues,

We are in the midst of a busy and eventful autumn at the Faculty of Medicine!

15 study places for UiO Campus Innlandet

Last week, we received the exciting news that 15 new study places have been allocated in the State Budget for the planned decentralised UiO campus for medical students at Sykehuset Innlandet HF, a project we have been pursuing for quite some time.

While we would have welcomed even more places, this allocation provides us with the opportunity to finalise our plans for a group of our medical students to complete the last three years of their degree while residing and studying in Innlandet.

We have seen that both students and staff in specialist and community health services are highly satisfied with this decentralised model at UiO campus S?r at S?rlandet HF. We now look forward to establishing a similar UiO campus in Innlandet. Our collaboration with Innlandet HF and NTNU on how to organise medical education in Innlandet continues with great enthusiasm.

Ny Head of IMB from the New year

Professor Philippe Collas has been elected as the new head of IMB for four years starting in January 2025, when Lene Frost Andersen will return to her professorship after eight years as head of the institute. Many thanks to Lene for her tremendous efforts and excellent work, and congratulations and welcome to Philippe in his new role!

Innovation Conference Science impact

On 24 September, UiO Growth House, organised in collaboration with us at the Faculty of Medicine, hosted the Science Impact conference. This event brought together participants from various disciplines and sectors and provided an excellent opportunity for networking and collaboration. Veksthuset offers many resources for students, researchers, and academic staff, such as a new innovation course in collaboration with the Postdoctoral Programme at MED, which is free for UiO employees. Read more about the course here: Innovation: Design thinking and other tools to help you transfer your research to industry and real world application.

Doctorate conferment ceremony

PhD education is vital! Its importance becomes very apparent every time the University of Oslo celebrates our new doctors at the magnificent conferment ceremony in the splendid Aula, surrounded by unique Munch paintings, accompanied by fantastic choral and orchestral music. Congratulations to all the new doctors, their supervisors, academic communities, faculties, the University of Oslo, and Norway!

Research festival during Research Days

In recent weeks, the Faculty of Medicine has been very active during the Research Days. It was impressive to see researchers from our own and other faculties engage the public at the Research Fair, held at the Technical Museum. The celebrations continued with nine of our PhD students competing in research communication in our local final of Forsker Grand Prix last Wednesday. On Saturday, one of our candidates won the national final and was crowned the Norwegian Champion in research communication! PhD fellow at Klinmed and consultant at Ahus, Helene Fjeldvik Peterson, impressed both the audience and judges at the 2024 Forsker Grand Prix final with her presentations on her research on the placenta (see photos). Congratulations to Helene and the entire academic community for this remarkable victory, as well as to the communications team at the Faculty of Medicine for their outstanding work on these events.

Thank you for all your hard work! Wishing you a wonderful rest of the autumn!

Best regards, Hanne
