Dear Colleagues,
As you will see from the text and pictures in this newsletter, a wide range of activities is ongoing at our faculty.
In addition to pleasant events such as the Jahre Prize, which was marked and celebrated last week, we frequently welcome guests.
Last week, we received a delegation from Ukraine working on mental health, and this week we hosted a health delegation from Estonia together with our colleagues at the Growth House.
On Monday, I visited the Minister of Health along with my dean colleagues from UiB, NTNU, and UiT, where we discussed current issues.
However, our most significant work is, of course, the continuous daily efforts with our core tasks: developing excellent education and research and improving our organisation in the best possible way.
In this edition of MED-nytt you can read about the work on the Learning Environment Survey, which will soon be distributed to our students, as well as the development of the Skills Centre, where medical students can practice and receive training in practical skills.
Review of the PhD Programme – Revisions under consultation
For some time, two projects related to our large PhD programme have been ongoing. One project aims to streamline and improve case processing, and we are in the process of implementing measures.
In the other project, a broad working group from the faculty has reviewed the internal guidelines for our PhD programme, and the group is about to deliver its report to the faculty management. Proposed changes will be sent for consultation to academic staff before Christmas, and we look forward to your feedback. Read more about this work.
As mentioned in Khrono, the current language requirement for articles in PhD theses at our faculty has been particularly debated. This issue will also be considered during the consultation process.
Medical students from Gaza are soon moving on
There have been several opportunities to meet our exchange students from Gaza, and on Monday 18 November at 18:00, we are organising a final meeting before these students move on to continue their studies.
The theme of the meeting is "Rebuilding Health Services in Gaza." Hospitals are in ruins, education has stopped, and health services are unavailable. So, how do we rebuild the health services and education system? How can we contribute? Join the discussion at our event on 18 November in Domus Bibliotheca.
I hope to see many of you around. Thank you for the great, important work you do.
Best regards, Hanne
