FRIPRO - new opportunities
Dean of Research Jan Bj?lie informs that UiO:Life Science has introduced a new and attractive incentive scheme that can assist you with your FRIPRO application. Since the Research Council of Norway (NFR) started with rolling deadlines, MED has only received one allocation.

Guest Post: SUSTAINIT – Becoming Part of New Centre for Global Sustainability
On 18th September, the University Board decided to establish the University of Oslo's new Centre for Global Sustainability, of which our centre, Sustainit, will become a part. The new centre will begin operations before summer 2025. Professor Eivind Engebretsen is the head of SUSTAINIT and has a guest post in MED-Nytt.

Awarded NOK 15 million from the Research Council
IMB Professor Joel C. Glover and his project colleagues have been awarded NOK 15 million to develop powerful platforms for stem cell-based lab models of neurodegenerative diseases.

Blix Prize to Two Outstanding Young Researchers
Peder Langeland Myhre (Klinmed) receives the prize for outstanding research in cardiovascular diseases. Marieke Kuijjer (NCMM) is awarded the prize for outstanding research in cancer.

The Transfer of MED Employees to the New Email System Begins on 3 December
Before the transition to the new email system, there are a few things we need to do to prepare.
- Update mobile number in the DF? portal
- Allocate at least 30 minutes to follow the clean-up guide
- Respond to the user survey about email

Are you a temporary academic employee or a temporary/permanent Professor II? Then you can propose candidates to represent you in the Faculty Board for the election period from 1 January to 31 December 2025.

Preparation Course for the C1 Exam – Higher Academic Level (info in Norwegian). This course covers the Norwegian language at an advanced academic level. The aim of the course is for participants to be able to pass the C1 exam.

UiO: Theatre Performance Offers for UiO Employees (in Norwegian). Right now, you can get tickets to an exciting modern twist on the classic Peer Gynt at the National Theatre (all remaining performances) as well as the popular performance "Shut Up, It's Ibsen" (only on 2nd November). Researchers in life sciences at UiO can apply for incentive funds for FRIPRO applications submitted from now until the end of 2025.

It is now possible to apply for admission to SPARK Norway, the innovation programme in health-related life sciences. The programme is for researchers who have an idea that can be developed into a service or treatment. Open to applicants from UiO, Ahus, and OUS. Application deadline: 7th November.

Overview: Upcoming public defence.
- 30 October: Course for Ph.D. candidates and postdoctoral researchers organised by the Faculty of Education. The course is free of charge. Register as soon as possible to secure a place: Project management in academia. The course is aimed at early-career researchers. Participants will gain a basic understanding of project management and how to reduce uncertainty in research projects. You will learn about the similarities and differences between "traditional" project management and research project management, and that project management in academia is an important transferable skill.

Medisinbloggen: Brainwashing Protects Against Brain Diseases (in Norwegian). For your brain to function normally, it needs to be washed. What role does the fluid around and between your brain cells play? And how does it protect against diseases such as dementia and cancer?
Klinmed: The Secrets of the Placenta (in Norwegian).
Did you know that your placenta was your most important organ? With more knowledge about the placenta, it becomes easier to detect forms of placental insufficiency that are not identified today. This can save lives.
SHE: How can young people actively participate in democracy? (in Norwegian) The majority of the Abortion Panel supported self-determined abortion, without a committee, up to the end of the 18th week. What do young people think about this? Students from Bjerke and Hartvig Nissen discussed health and democracy with researchers and a politician.
