New dean period

The Dean’s Office is entering our second 4-year term, and we look forward to continuing the work we have started:

  • Important as we go forward, will be the Faculty’s Strategy 2030, which will be adjusted and targeted more clearly. We are well underway, and the document will be sent to the departments soon. In parallel, we are preparing foundational documentation within Life Sciences and Knowledge in Use / Enabling Technologies. The departments have contributed to the latter, and we are in the process of creating a good overview of our activities. Within Life Sciences, the task is to gather the threads and clarify the essence of the many documents that already exist. The strategy and foundational documentation will be further developed into action plans within selected areas.
  • One such area is the quantum field. We are well underway in positioning ourselves nationally and developing a collaboration with the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen. Intensive efforts have resulted in political engagement and additional funding for the Research Council, which is now announcing NOK 70 million within the quantum field. The Research Council has arranged input meetings, in which we have participated. We are now eagerly awaiting the details of the call!
  • We are entering the last year before moving into the Life Sciences Building. There are many pieces still to be put in place. It is important that UiO has not yet entered into a lease agreement with Statsbygg. Acceptable economic conditions are a prerequisite for our three departments to move in. We will not get a detailed overview of the moving process from Statsbygg until closer to summer, but for now, we must make moving plans based on the information available. This spring, clearing, discarding, and disposing will be central to our three Life Sciences departments.

Rector Election

The most important event this spring at UiO is the election of a new Rectorate. Three teams have registered, which were announced on 13 January. The election campaign runs until 24 March, when the election opens. On 4 April, we will know UiO’s new Rector and Rector’s Team.

Follow the debates,
And use your vote!
It counts!

With this, I wish everyone a good start to the semester!
