- What preoccupies you at the moment?
Right now, I'm working on two applications. One is about biodiversity, databases, and politics. The other is more experimental and concerns technologies for food preservation (off-the-grid food preservation), temperature, and food sovereignty.
- If you were to explain to an eight-year-old what you are doing in three short sentences, what would you say?
I try to understand how people know nature and what we do with it, and how people develop technologies that sometimes make life easier and sometimes create problems — or both, like the mobile phone.
- What motivates you in your job?
Learning new things during fieldwork, talking to people, and trying to understand what they mean. The world out there is surprising. That's what I like most about my job, but there are other things that motivate me as well.
- If you were to become something different, what would it be?
Environmental lawyer, midwife, fiction writer, journalist or maybe chef. Something without a lot of planning requirements.
- What do you do to completely unwind?
What I like best is just hanging out with my friends and going to the movies, theater, concerts, bars. I love public places with lots of people. And I love going on mountain hikes for several days, spending a lot of time cooking, and I also like plants.
