About Design Thinking

Design thinking puts people first. It’s all about creating products, services, and solutions that truly meet human needs. When designing for a business challenge, the first question should always be: what’s the real human need behind it?

Design thinking blends human desirability with technical feasibility and economic viability. It empowers anyone—not just designers—to tackle complex challenges with creative tools and mindsets.

We offer three courses, each centered on a unique theme. Free meals will be provided at every course. See below for more information on each course.

Calm Tech futures: Week 7, Monday to Friday: 10:00–12:00 AM

Want to work on calm tech solutions that gives us the benefits of technology without intruding our lives?

Place: UiO iHub, Oslo Sience park, Lecturer: Joseph Makokha, PhD

In today’s?tech?environment, the motion from iPhones towards ever more connected devices - watches, pods, rings and eventually implants facilitating transhumanism?may seem inevitable. Yet, other possible futures and ways of interacting with?technology could equally well be envisioned: we can imagine futures where we?use?technology?but don’t?become?technology?ourselves.

An alternative?tech?utopia?is pictured in Marvel’s?Wakanda?series. The country Wakanda is highly?technological, yet human relations and traditions remain intact. Similarly, an alternative?dystopia?is pictured in Disney’s Star-wars spin-off?Andor, which is rich on?technology like hovering scooters, light speed travel and light sabres, but the use of a central device like an iPhone is all but abandoned.

Certain aspects of?ubiquitous?computing,?where?technology (like electricity) is always around but doesn’t directly ask for our attention is yet another path that has been researched for decades by designers.

On a detailed level, we could imagine future equivalents of phone booths (or lamp posts), packed with privately accessible displays or projector interfaces making?technology available when needed, but not always right at our fingertips.

In this project, we try to imagine what a different and less intrusive?technological future could look like. We then look for solutions (aka startup initiatives) to take us closer to that future.

Medicine, AI and Dignity: Week 7, Monday to Friday: 16:00–18:00 AM

Want to develop health care solutions that balances the use of technology and human contact?

Place: UiO iHub, Oslo Sience park, Lecturer: Joseph Makokha, PhD

Our daily human experiences have often benefited from technological advances, and recent gains in technologies like AI are presenting new, exciting possibilities in different fields including medicine.

On the other hand, maintaining rich human relationships is important if such technologies are to improve people’s experiences in healthcare. This is because we highly?desire?human connection,?especially when we are in a?vulnerable position?and require health/medical?help.

Starting with this triad combining medicine, AI and human experiences, how might we apply the technological advances in AI to?create better,?fulfilling?future in health and medicine? We can find inspiration in ways that AI technologies continue to improve our daily interpersonal communication. Or how they are helping make sense of the world through data, for example.?

We?welcome you to explore and test concepts in this domain during our upcoming weeklong?design thinking workshop, with the goal that if interested,?you will identify a promising?idea to continue?working on with our support.
