UiO:Democracy strives to remove barriers towards the development of interdisciplinary courses on democracy at the different units at UiO, also making these courses available for an increasing number of study programmes.
The seed grants are intended to cover expenses and additional costs for the development and implementation of the courses and there is an ongoing application deadline.
As of 2025 UiO:Democracy supports the development of courses included in the portfolio of the European University Alliance Circle U.
What can I get financial support for?
The purpose of the grants is to support educational measures which may build upon and support democracy-relevant research as it is described in the foundational document of UiO:Democracy.
The seed grants can, for example, support the development of
- new courses which may be utilized in different study programmes
- existing courses which with minor revisions may be made available to additional study programmes
- existing courses which with major revisions may be made available to additional study programmes
How much can I apply for?
You may apply for up to 100 000 NOK for development of new courses, and up to 75 000 NOK for adjusting existing courses.
The means will only cover development and run of the course the first time it is taught. Payment is based on documented expenses, up to the granted sum.
Courses must be hosted and administrated by the unit which have the main responsibility for offering the course. That is, the applicant's unit (department or similar).
Examples of what granted means may be used for:
- Fuying out free time for scientific employees involved in the development of the course, as well as lecturing the first time the course is offered.
- Wages for project-workers in the developmental stage of the course.
- Fees for external lecturers.
- Development of lecture- and teaching material.
- Meeting activities and similar.
How do I apply?
The application must be approved by the hosting unit and uploaded to UiO:Democracy ePhorte case number 2022/30358. Upload the whole application as one PDF.
The application must include
- 1-3 pages with a short description of the course, which includes
- an account of the content and design of the course
- the scientific relevance for UiO:Democracy
- the interdisciplinary dimensions of the course
- a course programme/schedule
- who is applying and applicant’s CV
- a detailed budget which describes all budget items
