Project leaders must hold a PhD degree and be employed at the University of Oslo, Oslo University Hospital (OUS) or Akershus University Hospital (Ahus).
Summer research projects should have an educational profile and give students hands-on experience with real-life research. The projects can be theoretical, practical ((with or without wet-lab) or computational, and should address a societal challenge. We encourage projects that have an interdisciplinary perspective and are suitable for students from different disciplinary backgrounds. Keep in mind that the students have different background and skills, and projects should not demand very advanced background knowledge.
If a single project leader wants to offer more than one project, that is possible, but please indicate which project has the highest priority. If we receive more than 40 projects, only the highest priority projects will be participating in the draw.
Mandatory matchmaking seminar 7 March
The projects that are selected must participate with a presentation slide in our matchmaking seminar on Monday 7 March 2022 at 14:00-17:00 at Blindern. Here you will meet the students who have applied in and present your project with a poster. After the seminar, you will rate the students you consider eligible for your project. The students will also rate the projects. UiO:Life Science will eventually combine the ratings and assign students to all projects present at the seminar.
Students could apply from 13 January at 8 AM. The first 100 students to sign up, will be admitted to the matchmaking seminar. In the end 40 students will be assigned to projects.
Work plan, stipend and expendables
Students will perform research under supervision integrated in a UiO, OUS or Ahus research group within life science for six weeks full-time equivalent. The time period must be defined in agreement with the student before the project starts. The exact work plan and deliveries for the project will be up to you to decide upon in dialogue with the student assigned, but the project cannot contribute to ECTS credits (studiepoeng) or be part of or preparation for a (future) master project. You should meet the student personally, discuss these issues and sign the contract shortly after the student has been assigned to the project.
The project in itself is unpaid. To compensate for lack of other income, UiO:Life Science awards the students with a stipend of NOK 50 000. The stipend is subject to tax.
Project leaders for wet-lab projects will receive NOK 10 000 for expendables from UiO:Life Science.
Closing event in October
The students must provide a poster on the project and their own learning outcomes for the closing event in October 2022. In August/September the students will also be offered a seminar on scientific presentation techniques, including poster design.
