Apply for internationalization support from UiO:Life Science

Academic employees, post docs and PhD students at UiO within the life sciences can apply for support to strengthen the collaboration with international research environments. The last application deadline was 1 June.

UiO:Life Science supports internationalization in two different categories:

  1. Support to organize closed workshops to plan and establish new project collaborations between researchers at UiO and international researchers.
  2. Support to young researchers at UiO to travel on short stays to reputable international research groups with the aim of learning new methods and networking.

More about the two categories:

Category 1

To promote international collaboration UiO:Life Science will fund workshops for researchers with plans to establish or develop ideas for new research projects between researchers at UiO and established international researchers.

The support given will be in line with the strategy for life sciences at UiO on interaction and internationalization.

The UiO aims to reduce carbon emissions from travel by 2030, but at the same time professional activities should not suffer. We ask the applicants to consider digital or hybrid solutions for participants and/or speakers, and describe their considerations in the application.

Costs that can be covered

The support can cover travel and stay for international guests, and venue costs if it is not possible to have the workshop at UiO campus locations. Each applicant may receive a maximum of NOK 50,000. The funds will be transferred to the applicants unit, and UiO regulations for use apply. Confer with your local economy adviser if needed.

Requirements (please have ready before you start filling out the application form):

  • Participants: UiO
  • Participants: international researchers
  • Description of project idea (maximum 350 words)
  • Total amount applied for from UiO:Life Science (maximum NOK 50,000)

  • Applications in category 1 will have priority over applications in category 2
  • Applicants who have not received internationalization support from UiO:Life Science before will be given priority

Category 2

Life science research can be methodologically challenging and new methods are developing fast. UiO:Life Science will fund PhD students, post docs or researchers up to 45 years of age to visit international research groups with unique methodological expertise that cannot be found locally.

The support given will be in line with the strategy for life science at UiO, on recruiting, training and developing talents, and interaction and internationalization.

It is required that the aim of the trip is to work in an internationally recognized research group on a (short) targeted research project. The funds cannot be used for participation in courses.

The UiO aims to reduce carbon emissions from travel by 2030, but at the same time professional activities should not suffer and early-career scholars’ travels should be exempt from restrictions. We do however expect applicants to consider low emission travel options when possible.

Costs that can be covered

The support can cover travel costs and reasonable accommodation. Allowance/sustenance or research expenses will not be covered. Each applicant may receive a maximum of NOK 50,000. The funds will be transferred to the applicants unit, and UiO regulations for use apply. Confer with your local economy adviser if needed.

    • CV of the person who will be traveling (UiO) (maximum 2 pages)
    • CV of the head of the center/research group to be visited (maximum 2 pages)

Your application will not receive support:

  • If the budget is not specified
  • We encourage applicants funded by the Research Council of Norway or other funding agencies that support foreign exchange to apply to their funders for such support.

If we cannot support all the applications, applications will be given priority according to:

  • Applications in category 1 will have priority over applications in category 2
  • Applications from PhD students and post docs will be prioritized.
  • Applicants who have not received internationalization support from UiO:Life Science before will be given priority

For both categories:

After the application deadline UiO:Life Science and a committee will evaluate the applications. All applicants will receive a response within one month after the application deadline.
