Funding
NOK 50,000 stipend.
The project in itself is unpaid; to compensate for lack of other income, UiO:Life Science awards the students who get assigned to a project a stipend. The stipend is subject to tax, and each student is responsible for providing the necessary tax information. The stipend will be transferred once it is confirmed that the student has started.
Further description
Students will perform research addressing health, biodiversity, sustainability, environmental issues or other topics related to life sciences.
Each project will be supervised by a research group within life sciences at the University of Oslo, Oslo University Hospital or Akershus University Hospital.
The project cannot contribute to ECTS credits (studiepoeng) or be part of or preparation for a (future) master project.
Mandatory matchmaking seminar
The first 150 applicants will be admitted to a matchmaking seminar with project owners Tuesday 11 March 14:00-17:00 at Blindern. In the seminar, the students will meet researchers who will present their projects. They will subsequently rate the projects, and the project leaders will rate the students they have met. UiO:Life Science will then combine the ratings and assign 50 students to around 40 projects.
Workload and work plan
The total workload should be equivalent to six weeks full-time. The students will receive a contract to be filled out together with the project leader, agreeing on a fully defined time period, the work to be done and deliveries to the project. Work can start as early as April and must be completed by 1 October.
Closing event in October
All students must make a poster on the project and their own learning outcomes for the closing event on in October each year. In August/September they will be offered a seminar on scientific presentation techniques, including poster design.
