The summer projects provide bachelor's and master's students with practical experience with research projects which address a social challenge in health or the environment. The initiative was created by UiO:Life Science in 2018 and is very popular among the students.

Poster exhibition, presentations and prize ceremony

The program of the event included a poster exhibition summarizing the students' research projects, an inspirational talk by a former summer student, Anette Kolderup, now PhD-student at the Laboratory of Adaptive Immunity and Homeostasis, and a film from a research project in Finse, Western Norway.

In addition, five of the students gave short presentations about their projects, while the Director of UiO:Life Science, Carl Henrik G?rbitz, spoke about the initiative with the summer project.

The event ended with a prize ceremony for the best poster in two categories. Eline Hernes and Marlene Metz who had their project at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences at Rikshospitalet, supervised by Helene Kn?velsrud and Miriam Fornica received most votes and won the prize for best popular science poster. A jury consisting of UiO:Life Science' own PhDs and postdocs evaluated the posters on the basis of academic quality. The poster that was awarded the best academic poster was created by Solveig Horn, who had her project at NCMM - Centre for Molecular Medicine Norway supervised by Charlotte Boccara and Brijesh Modi.

A new announcement will be made in December 2024

The initiative with the summer project will be continued in 2025. Information about the next announcement will be posted in December 2024.
