Summer research projects should have an educational profile and give students hands-on experience with research within energy, climate and environment. The projects may address a societal challenge and, if possible and relevant, have an interdisciplinary perspective.
Curious about the projects students were involved in during the summer of 2023? Watch the video below from the closing event for the summer research projects (only in Norwegian).
Previous projects funded by UiO:Energy and Environment:
- See all projects 2024 here.
- 2023: Master students Kiah Lee and Tengel Hvidsten collaborated on the summer research project titled "How does pollution impact sperm quality?", with Becky Cramer from the Natural History Museum, UiO.
- 2023: Master students Nina Jonsrud, Renate Oksavik og Marie Christine Vallestad collaborated on the summer research project titled "Spill om klima", with Ole Sm?rdal and Anja Amundrud from Department of Education, UiO.
- 2024: Master students Louisa Victoria Crysmann, Sara Prestvik Kristensen and Emma Tvinnereim collaborated on the summer research project titled "Mapping Mining: Visualising the social and environmental impacts of mining for the Twin Transition", with Maja Van Der Velden from Department of Informatics and Andrea Alessandro Gasparini from the University of Oslo Library.
- 2024: Reports from INCLUDE summer research projects
- Jalling, Ylva: Barriers to and Opportunities for More Sustainable Academic Mobility
- Moen, Maria M?num. Kommunens rolle ved vern og restaurering av myr

About the scholarship
- The proposed summer research projects should thematically cover one or more of the four main research areas of UiO:Energy and Environment.
- Students will perform research under supervision integrated in a UiO research group within sustainable energy, climate and/or environment. It is imperative that the students are offered a meaningful, supervised research project and not just do menial tasks for the research groups.
- Each student will receive a taxable stipend of NOK 50 000 for their effort.
- Funding is for six weeks full-time equivalent (reduced time per week down to 50% for 12 weeks can be accepted). Ideally, we would like the research period to be during summer recess, but UiO:Energy and Environment will fund any period such that research in concluded before November 1, 2025.
- The exact work plan will be defined by you as researchers or research group in dialogue with the assigned student(s).
Regarding the selection of candidates:
- Who can apply?
- Bachelor students enrolled in their 5th or 6th semester
- Master students (first and second year)
- The final selection of candidates will be done by the project provider (you) and UiO:Energy and Environment within March 1, based on the following criteria:
- Academic proficiency (grades)
- Motivation letter and relevant competence for the project at hand
Submitting summer project proposals
Please fill out the webform below and upload a project description.
Supervisors are expected to commit enough time to guide the students and also participate at a final half-day gathering in the fall after the projects have been completed.
Please be aware that main supervisor needs to hold a permanent position at UiO.
