Seed funding for the development of courses

UiO:Energy and Environment announces funding for the development of bachelor, master and PhD courses within the fields of sustainable energy, climate and environment.

The call for seed funding is a measure to strengten UiO's educational efforts for sustainable and just solutions. UiO:Energy and Environment aims to support the development of courses within the fields of sustainable energy, climate and environment. The funding will cover the development of relevant courses during the start-up period.

As of 2024 UiO:Energy and Environment supports the development of courses relevant to the European University Alliance Circle U. We also encourage courses that are relevant to the bachelor's supplements -  UiO's Sustainability Certificate and UiO's Innovation Certificate.

Application deadline: open ended throughout 2024.

Criteria for receiving funding

The funding will cover development of relevant 5- and 10-credits courses that thematically relates to the main research areas identified by UiO:Energy and Environment. 

What can you apply for?

  • The development of new courses open for students across several study programs
  • The development of existing courses that, with minor adjustments, can be made available across several study programs
  • The further development of existing courses, that, with major adjustments, can be made available across several study programs.

How much can you apply for?

  • Up to NOK 100.000 to develop new courses,
  • Up to NOK 75 000 to develop existing courses.

The funding only covers the development and management of courses the first time it is given. The courses must be owned and administered by the department/center responsible for providing the course (applicant).

Examples of what you can use the funding for

  • Purchase of release time for involved academic staff for the development of the course as well as for teaching the first time the course is given
  • Salary of project employees during the development phase of the course
  • Fees of external lecturers
  • Development of teaching arrangements and teaching materials
  • Meetings

Who can apply?

All departments/centres at UiO responsible for study programs or courses may apply. The department/centre with program responsibility (or equivalent) owns the application and is the responsible recipient for the allocation of funds.

Evaluation and allocation

  • Relevance for sustainable energy, climate and environment, and then especially for the UiO:Energy and Environment thematic research areas
  • Accessability for students across study programs.

Applications will be evaluated, processed and awarded by the Director of UiO:Energy and Environment continuously.
