UiO:Energy and Environment is one of the university's three interdisciplinary strategic initiatives. The aim of the initiative is to contribute to a large-scale energy transition while reducing climate and environmental issues. To foster interdisciplinary collaborations within UiO and in collaboration with other research institutions and with non-academic partners is a priority - and we find participation in the FME scheme to be an important measure.

RCN also organized an information meeting on August 21st, but no information from this meeting has been published unfortunately.
The Centres for Environment-friendly Energy Research (FMEs) carry out long-term research targeted towards renewable energy, energy efficiency, CCS and social science aspects of energy research. This call applies to centers that mainly focus on energy transition and consequences for society, climate and nature. The centres selected for funding shall contribute to delivering the knowledge necessary to solve challenges for the energy transition in society. The research will provide a basis for the design of policies, strategies and services.
RCN aims to fund 2-3 centres with a total funding of 240 MNOK. Each centre may apply for 80-130 MNOK. The call is expected to be published in the fall 2025 (i.e. very soon), and the new FMEs are to start late 2027.
The objectives of this call are linked to the Portfolio plan for Energy, Transport and Low Emissions (forskningsradet.no) and the Norwegian energy and climate policies.
