The wireless network called "uio"closed on July 7th.

The wireless network called "uio" was shut down on July 7th. The UiO wireless network you should use, is called "eduroam". Set up your device to use "eduroam from eduroam.no/connect

Background

"Eduroam" has long been the preferred wireless network at the University. The two wireless networks "eduroam" and "uio" are in all practical purposes identical, and since we are obligated to have the eduroam network, "uio" is now shut down. Eduroam (Educational Roaming) is an international collaboration between educational institutions from around the world. The network is open to login for users from participating institutions. Log in with your normal UiO username and password.

Check which network you use

Most computers and phones, and other portable devices, at the University already use "eduroam". If you want to check which network your device uses, open the wireless settings on your device and check there. If you are unsure how to do it, please contact your local IT staff or the Houston support centre.

If you need to switch wireless networks

If you find that your device uses the wireless network "uio", you need to setup your device to use "eduroam". You should do this before June 7th.

To switch networks:

1. Go to eduroam setup page
2. Select "Universietet i Oslo" from the dropdown menu
3. Select the appropriate platform and version
4. Download the configuration file and start it. When prompted for a username, enter it in the form of "username@uio.no".

If you encounter any problems or need assistance, please contact your local IT staff or the Houston support centre..

Setting up eduroam

When the eduroam setup starts, you are prompted for your username. Please give the username on this form: "username@uio.no."
