– There are two main reasons for clarifying this rule. We want to create more of a divide between the e-mail you use as an employee at UiO and the e-mail you use as a private person, or with other employers. We also wish to comply with privacy laws, says the IT director at UiO, Lars Oftedal.
Applies to all employees
This clarification applies to all employees, but not those who are only affiliated with the university, such as visiting researchers, alumni and consultants. This will mainly affect those who uses an external e-mail account and who are automatically forwarding UiO e-mails to the external account.
Students may continue as before, unless they are also employed at UiO.
Those who are affected by this will receive an e-mail from USIT in early June. This change will take effect on September 1st, 2017, and we encourage you to disable the forwarding yourself at brukerinfo.uio.no before this date. Here is a guide on how to disable automatic forwarding.
USIT will disable the forwarding for you if you have not done so yourself by September 1st, 2017.
Wants better control
This change is made to enable the university to have better control over personal data.
– From time to time, our employees process personal information and other types of information that must be protected. We need to do these types of changes to ensure the privacy of our users, Oftedal says.
If your e-mail is automatically forwarding e-mails out of the UiO system, UiO cannot guarantee that personal information is processed securely in all stages.
