It is a prerequisite when using Zoom for lectures and livestreams, that UiO's routines for streaming and recording online lectures are followed.
Students using Zoom to connect to online lectures or livestreams can in most cases choose if they want to share their audio or video. This is configured by the student when connecting to the lecture or livestream, and can also be changed at any time during the connection. Students can also choose if they want to send texts with the built-in chat function. Sometimes it is necessary for the student to share audio or video in order to meet course requirements.
If students connect to Zoom using their FEIDE user account then their name and UiO email address will be shared with Uninett AS, which supplies Zoom to UiO.
In order to safeguard UiO's social responsibility it is important that UiO can offer alternative teaching options. The processing of personal data is necessary for UiO to carry out its tasks pursuant to the University and Colleges Act. The processing is necessary as part of UiO's activities and purposes as an educational institution, cf. GDPR art. 6(1)(e) cf. the University and Colleges Act § 1-3.
In addition UiO collects analysis data from the use of Zoom, such as hosts, participants, time, hardware and IP address. Access to the data is strictly limited and serves UiO's interest in optimizing, correcting, producing statistics for and improving the service, cf. GDPR art. 6(1)(f).
UiO runs its own installation of Zoom via its subcontractors. This means that UiO is not subject to Zoom's general privacy policy.
