In the years ahead when we stop to remember where we were on July 21, 1969 when man first landed on the moon, we will of course be reminded again of our summer in Oslo. For many of us the coverage of Apollo 11 on Norwegian T.V. was a bit difficult to comprehend, but for all of us Apollo 11’s spectacular achievement was truly unbelievable. We were spellbound by this “giant step for mankind”. But many of us also had our reservations. Could the money used to bring man to the moon been better spent in the fight against social injustice at home? On July 31 a small group, led by Chuck Griffiths, met in the Frederikke Restaurant to discuss the problem. After an hour of heated debate, Christian Moe rose to present a brilliant summary of the issues, arguing in the main that the man should not and can not hold back progress. Mr. Moe’s compelling arguments quelled the opposition; with the controversary laid to rest, the meeting was called to a close.
