How to travel from Oslo airport Gardermoen

Oslo Airport provides various transportation options to and from the airport. For a detailed overview of the different travel options, it is advisable to visit the Oslo airport website.

The more expensive travel options include the Airport Express Train (Flytoget), the Airport Express Coach (Flybussen), or the NOR-WAY bus Airport Coach (Flybussekspressen).

Alternatively, you can choose an economical travel option by purchasing a ticket all the way to R?nningen with the companies Vy and Ruter. To do this, first, buy the ticket from the ticket machine at Gardermoen (refer to the photo below). Then, take a Vy train or a Ruter bus from Oslo Airport Gardermoen to Oslo City Center (Oslo S). Upon arrival at Oslo Central station (Oslo S), utilize public transportation to reach Kjels?s/R?nningen.

Currency

  • We recommend exchanging currencies as soon as you arrive at Oslo International Airport.

  • It is important to exchange your currency to Norwegian kroner (NOK) and not Euros.

  • It is recommended to have at least NOK 1000 in cash to cover expenses such as fares, tickets, and emergency purchases.

  • The Norwegian krone tends to be strong against other currencies and the cost of goods to be expensive, so plan your budget accordingly.

  • ATMs, known as "Minibank," are mainly located in airports and train stations. ATMs at the airport generally accept most cards.

  • Norway is more or less a cashless society, many services and shops prefers cards.

Tips from experienced travelers

Seasoned travelers have found that hand luggage (carry-on) is the best place to keep items safe and close at hand. It is recommended that you pack these items in your hand luggage:

  • Copies of all important documents: Letter of Admission from ISS, Passport, other formal ID, etc.
  • A “survival kit” containing a towel, some personal toiletries, and a change of clothes.
  • Other irreplaceable or valuable items: electronics, cash, research material, etc.
  • All prescription medications. Be sure the medicines are clearly labeled and that you have documentation from your physician with you. Bring entire amount of medication needed. You will not be able to refill your prescribed medication in Norway.

Review airline regulations for luggage

  • Security regulations at airports are subject to change. Take the time to review what items are permitted and what are forbidden to pack in your carry-on luggage as well as your checked luggage.
  • For example,  liquids in containers larger than 100 ml are not allowed in carry-on luggage. This includes cosmetics, hand creams, water bottles, etc. See all baggage regulations.
  • Be sure to check with your airline regarding luggage and weight allowances. Overweight fines can be expensive.
  • It is advisable to purchase travel insurance for both your trip and your luggage through a reliable travel agency or booking agent.

Check your local airport website for any flight changes or delays 24 hours before your scheduled departure.
