Copying rights and restrictions

There are strict regulations regarding the copying of publications. Take time to read the information below carefully, and contact the ISS if you have any questions.

The reproduction licence covers

  1. From books currently in circulation: Up to 15% of the total content, an entire chapter, a whole short story, or a complete scene from a play.
  2. From books no longer available in stores: Up to 30% of the total content.
  3. One article from one number of an academic/scientific periodicals/journal
  4. The reproduction of periodical publications such as newspapers, weekly magazines, cultural and professional journals, etc. is not subject to volume restrictions.
  5. Brochures and other publications intended for free distribution.
  6. Exam assignments 
  7. Material published lawfully on open websites may be reproduced without volume restrictions
  8. Material can be published 70 years after after death of author

This agreement allows for free copying of all publications, Norwegian as well as foreign, within the following restrictions:

  1. Copying can only be performed by staff/faculty, students, board members, and other individuals with specific ties to the institution of higher education.
  2. Copying can only be allowed for instructional purposes, research, and other internal use at the institution of higher education.
  3. Copying licensed material shall not replace purchase of publications that otherwise would be acquired in their entirety.
  4. The agreement allows for the photocopying of books, magazines/periodicals, newspapers, notes, brochures and free publications/advertising, Internet etc.
  5. The agreement is only valid for photocopying to paper, transparencies, slides and the like. Digital copies cannot be distributed to the end user in their digital form!
  6. Copying of laws, regulations, court rulings, and public documents can be made free of charge according to the law of public governance.
