The university buildings of Blindern date back to the early 1930s. Inspiration was found in the modernist movement of European architecture. For the next period of campus development, the 1960s, post-war USA served as a source of inspiration. However, Scandinavian design was also a key feature in what was then Norway's largest public building project.
