Abstract
The self-playing guitars are focused on the meeting point between digital and acoustic sound making, through non-traditional interaction with an acoustic instrument. Each of the guitars is equipped with a micro-computer containing an accelerometer, IR-camera and microphone. These are the components in which to interact with, where specific interactions are programmed to produce electronic sound through an actuator placed on the back of the guitars. There are no external speakers; all the sound generation is coming from the vibration of the acoustic guitars.
Bio
Hi! My name is Sebastian Fongen, and I'm a research assistant at RITMO. Beyond that, I’m doing a master’s degree in musicology at UiO, as well as studying composition at NMH part-time. At RITMO, I primarily work with the Self-Playing Guitars. My work involves creating new ideas and concepts, coding in Pure Data, writing documentation and participate and perform in exhibitions and concerts with the guitars. Although this project is primarily something I work on these days, every iterations of it is a team effort between Research Assistants and other people at RITMO.
