There is an increased interest in conducting empirical, non-clinical research on and with human subjects. Many universities across Norway have invested in equipment and established small and large labs for various behavioural studies, including audio and video recording, motion capture, eye tracking, muscle sensing, respiration, heart rate, brain activity measurements, and more. Some equipment is lab-based, while others are intended for use in the field.
Many of these infrastructures are used by humanities and social sciences researchers who focus on data collection and analysis for scientific purposes. However, there is also an apparent overlap with researchers in arts, design, and engineering; some facilities are also used for clinical applications.
Inspired by HumInfra.se, we call for a workshop to explore the possibility and potential of establishing a national "umbrella" infrastructure that could serve as a meeting point between existing physical lab infrastructures. We aim to uncover underlying needs between existing equipment and facilities for data collection and analysis, structure user and maintenance knowledge, and develop educational materials and courses. If sufficient institutions agree, we intend to apply for this year's RCN call for national infrastructures.
