We are excited about hosting a workshop with two renowned international artists, Kristin Norderval and Nick Wishart. Both have experience working with novel electronic systems in their music performance and composition. Through hands-on sessions with EVII and Round Sounds, participants will get to experience body-based music control and discuss the future of musicking technologies.

About EVII
About Round Sounds
Round Sounds are innovative devices that use gyroscopes and accelerometers to translate human movement into sound and music. Touch-activated MIDI motion controllers enable anyone to create music and sound through physical gestures. Performers can roll, bounce, tap, and toss them to produce a diverse spectrum of intuitive compositions, sounds, and rhythmic interplay. Designed with physical performers in mind, Round Sounds seamlessly connect musicians, dancers, and jugglers. What sets them apart is their unique ability to control DMX lighting and motion graphics, making them versatile tools for interactive performances.
Kristin Norderval

Kristin Norderval’s career has been twofold: as a singer of contemporary music performing and recording with composers such as Pauline Oliveros, Philip Glass, Annea Lockwood, Tania Leon, and many others; and as a composer-improviser working with technology. Kristin is inspired by hybridity, interactivity, and the idea that everything one does is site-specific. She blends acoustic and electronic sound, and is fascinated with homemade instruments, machines, and ambient sound. Between 2019 and 2023, Kristin was a PhD Research Fellow at the Oslo National Academy of Opera in Norway, where she developed the Expanded Vocal Improvising Instrument (EVII) for gestural vocal processing using wireless MIDI rings. She has used the EVII in her latest opera, Crane Reflects on a Favor; in collaborations with numerous musicians; and in her solo works. More information on Dr. Norderval?s work can be found on her website and Research Catalogue.
About Nick Wishart

Nick Wishart is an interdisciplinary artist, musician, and inventor with over 25 years of experience exploring sound, light, and interactivity. His work fuses performance, music, and technology through custom-built electronic instruments and interactive installations. His Round Sounds wireless MIDI controllers earned him a finalist spot in the 2023 Guthman Musical Instrument Competition, leading to a USA tour. A member of Toydeath, he has performed internationally with the legendary circuit-bent toy band. His work spans GPS-guided audio projects like Trains by The Kids (NSW Art Gallery Hive Festival, 2024) and audio-reactive light installations, including his Emerging Artist Award-winning piece at the 2024 North Sydney Art Prize. Residencies include Scene Shift (CAD Factory, 2023), where he developed a solar-powered weather-reactive light sculpture, and a self-directed residency at Hotel Saint Valerie (France, 2024).
