Course content

The objective of this 4000-module is to introduce you to ‘appraisal theory’, which is a development of the interactive dimension of M. Halliday’s functional grammar – Systemic Functional Grammar.

Learning outcome

‘Appraisal theory’ deals with the use of evaluative linguistic forms that reveal how the text and thus also how senders express personal attitudes and values and how they react to and relate to other people’s statements of value and belief.
