Course content
The course gives an introduction to the relationship between music and motion from different perspectives.
Learning outcome
By the end of the course the student will:
- be familiar with different embodied perspectives on the experience of music.
- have acquired terminology to describe different kinds of music-related body motion by both performers and perceivers.
- be familiar and have hands-on experience with qualitative and quantitative methods for analysing music-related motion.
Admission to the course

Formal prerequisite knowledge
Admission to the University of Oslo.
Overlapping courses
- 10 credits overlap with MUS4006 – Musikk og bevegelse (discontinued).
Teaching
The teaching will consist of a total of 12 sessions, of which 10 are lectures and 2 are seminars.
Three obligatory assignments and one obligatory seminar presentation must be approved by the course tutor for a student to be able to sit the exam.
Examination
Term paper (10 pages, each containing approx. 2.300 characters, spaces not included) with title and topic to be approved by the course tutor.

Language of examination
You may submit the term paper in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
