The results of the midterm exam are now posted in canvas.
I posted the solutions, please tell me if you disagree with some point, find mistakes or do not understand what I mean. I hope the results will be ready sometime next week. You will not get a grade, only the score, and the score will be included when determining the final grade after the final exam.
This week, on Wednesday 3/11, we will discuss protocols for quantum cryptography. To prepare, it is useful to understand something about classical codes, and as a challenge to you I have prepared a secret message that you can try to decrypt:

In the states |JM>, M takes integral values (or half integral if N is odd). I uploaded a new version where this is explicit.
I had formulated the question in a misleading way, i have posted an updated text on the webpage (not sure I can change the one in Inspera), I hope it is now clear. I had asked you to prove that the state will never decay to the ground state |00>. It will sometimes, but not always.
Tuesday 26/10 at 10:15 (normal time and place for lectures) I will come to answer questions regarding the midterm exam problems. I will not give the answers, but we can discuss any problems in understanding the questions and also the general understanding of the problems.
Questions can also be sent on email (jbergli@fys.uio.no) or Padlet, or you can come to ask me (room FV405).
By mistake, all lectures were not listed in the schedule on the web page (the one which is linked to your calendars). This has now been corrected, and we have lectures as normal this week.
In week 40, I will be absent, and we have no lectures. Instead we will have extra problems to discuss. Francesco is also busy on Wednesday, so no teaching at all that day. This means there is discussion of problems on Tuesday 10-12 and Thursday 10-12. To compensate for the missed Wednesday class, Francesco will be available in his office (V105) from 12 to 15:30 to discuss any problems that you did not get time for in the classes.
The midterm exam will be in week 43 as previously announced. In the lecture plan, I indicated that it would be due on Monday 1/11, implicitly thinking that the problems would be available from Monday 25/10. Now, I found that it is more convenient for me that the problems are due on Friday 29/10 at 12:00. It also means that I will make them available from Friday 22/10 in the morning. If anyone has any problems with this, you have to inform me immediately, otherwise the stated dates will be final.
Thursday, 23/9 I will give a lecture instead of problem solving. The lecture will be in Kristian Birkelands auditorium
My covid test is negative, so I am allowed back. This means that I will teach today 10:15-12 in Kristian Birkelands auditorium. Hopefully, we will not have more technical problems, and it will be on Zoom in parallell.
I have a sore throat today and can not come to give the lecture. I will give the lecture on Zoom from home instead, normal time at 12:15-14. Tomorrow we will have lecture instead of problem solving as announced. If I can come, it will be in Kristian Birkelands auditorium, otherwise on Zoom, please check for new messages and I will update the information (I try to figure out if I can come with light symptoms in case my test is negative) .
There was a problem with the network connection in the first part of the lecture today. It is fixed, and I hope it will not return. So for those who did not get connected on Zoom tody, do not give up, we try again tomorrow.
Lectures will be physical, but streamed on Zoom for those who can not/do not want to attend the lecture physically. Zoom link is available on Canvas for registered students.
The first week, I will give lecture also on the Thursday (26/8), and we will have no problem session. The next week, we will have problem sessions Wednesday (1/9) and Thursday (2/9).
