INF4380 – Introduction to robotics
Course description
Course content
The mechanical structure of robots as well as the spatial description and transforms of the robot, kinematic and inverse kinematic equations for different robotic structures, simple control theory, applications for robotic systems, laboratory practice to learn simple robot programming.
Learning outcome
The student will after this cource know different applications of robotic systems and be able to describe mechanical robotic structures and systems. You will also be familiar with the matematics involved and be able to do path generation and control of simple robotic systems.
Will have knowlege in sensor control of robotic systems based on force measurements and camera (vision).
Admission
Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.
If you are not already enrolled as a student at UiO, please see our information about admission requirements and procedures.
Prerequisites
Recommended previous knowledge
Some experience with handling matrix calculations e.g. from MAT1001/MAT1100
Overlapping courses
10 credits overlap with INF3480 – Introduction to robotics (continued)
Teaching
2 hours of lectures and 2 hours of assignment training per week. Mandatory assignments must be completed during the course. Rules for mandatory assignments.
Examination
A 4 hour written exam. The mandatory assignments must be approved prior to the exam.
Examination support material
It is allowed to use the studybook Robot Modeling and Control by Mark W. Spong, Seth Hutchinson, M. Vidyasagar, 2005. Wiley.; "Matematisk formelsamling" ("Collection of mathematical formulas") by Rottman and and an approved calculator.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
Explanations and appeals
Resit an examination
Students who can document a valid reason for absence from the regular examination are offered a postponed examination at the beginning of the next semester.
Re-scheduled examinations are not offered to students who withdraw during, or did not pass the original examination.
Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
Special examination arrangements
Application form, deadline and requirements for special examination arrangements.
It is strongly recommended to attend the first lecture since it will be given important information.
