INF2050 – Introduction to animation
Course content
The first part of the course offers introduction into basic 3D visualisation. The course covers 3D-modeling, surfaces, rendering techniques, light setting and animation using 3D MAX software. The other part of the course is about animation algorithms. To this end we will use one part of Rick parent's book "Computer Animation: Algorithms and Techniques”.
Learning outcome
The course provides introduction into modern 3D visualisationapplications and techniques. Creative work in 3D MAX is an important part of the course. It is also important that you get insight into how one starts "from scratch" using algorithms.
Admission
Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.
If you are not already enrolled as a student at UiO, please see our information about admission requirements and procedures.
The course has restricted admission. Students with admission to the informatics programme of professional study, Information and Interaction Design have the priority. Other students will be ordered by points.
Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
In addition to fulfilling the Higher Education Entrance Qualification, applicants have to meet the following special admission requirements:
- Mathematics R1 or Mathematics (S1+S2)
The special admission requirements may also be covered by equivalent studies from Norwegian upper secondary school or by other equivalent studies. Read more about special admission requirements (in Norwegian).
Teaching
2 hours formal teaching and 4 hours lab a week. The labs are mandatory (at least 80% of them)
Examination
The exam consists of
- a complete animation (ca 50%)
- three evaluations during the semester; one animation (ca 20%) and two theoretical (ca 15% each).
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a pass/fail scale. Read more about the grading system.
Resit an examination
This subject does not offer new examination in the beginning of the subsequent term for candidates who withdraw during an ordinary examination or fail an ordinary examination. For general information about new examination, see /studier/admin/eksamen/sykdom-utsatt/mn/index.html and www.matnat.uio.no/english/studies/examination/repeat.html
