Course content

About petroleum in general, the formation of petroleum, aspects of resources, refinement of petroleum, important processes in petrochemical industry, petrochemicals, polymers, catalysis and reaction kinetics.

Learning outcome

During this course, the student should gain a general knowledge about petroleum formation and use, important petrochemical processes such as oil refining and natural gas conversion, petrochemicals, polymers, catalysis and reaction kinetics.

Admission

Teaching

The course comprises 2 hours/week of lectures, 2 hours/week of exercises and a mandatory project task. The first lecture is mandatory. If you are unable to attend, you have to report to the Expedition office (phone 22 85 54 46) in advance.

Access to teaching

A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.

Examination

The project task has do be approved before the student can take part in the examination. An approved project report is valid for 3 semesters.

Written (3 hours) examination.

This subject offers new examination in the beginning of the subsequent term for candidates who withdraw during an ordinary examination or fail an ordinary examination. Language of examination

You may submit your response in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English. If you would prefer to have the exam text in English, you may apply to the course administrators.

Grading scale

Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
