I have published the final syllabus under "Additional information" on the semester home page. Let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Ulrik
Dear all,
I have published a final problem set, along with solutions to problem set 6.
We have reached the end of the course, and there will be no more lectures. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions about the course. I will publish a more detailed overview of the syllabus and what I consider important as soon as I have time.
Best,
Ulrik
Dear all,
The doodle has spoken, and the exam will be on Monday 12 June. I will get back to you with more information about the oral examination.
Best,
Ulrik
Dear all,
I have published solutions to problem sheet 5 and the mandatory assignment. I have also published a problem sheet 6.
Best regards,
Ulrik
Dear all,
I have published the mandatory assignment; you can find it in Canvas. The submission deadline is on Thursday 13 April at 14:30.
Please feel free to contact me, either in lecture, during office hours, or stop by my office, if you have questions.
Best regards,
Ulrik
I'm at home with a sick child, so today's (Tuesday 21 March) lecture is unfortunately cancelled.
Best regards,
Ulrik
Dear all,
Sorry for the delay; I have just published the solution to problem set 4 and a fifth problem set.
Have a nice weekend!
Ulrik
I have published a solution to Problem set 3, as well as a fourth set of problems.
Best regards,
Ulrik
As mentioned in class today, office hours will be on Mondays at 14:00–15:00 from now on, still in my office, room 1017 in NHA. I encourage everyone to stop by and discuss their work on the problem set, or anything else related to the course.
Best,
Ulrik
Today's (Monday 30 January) office hours collides with a meeting, so I need to postpone it to 14:00, after the lecture. Sorry for the short notice!
Ulrik
Dear all,
I have published the first set of problems, available further down on this page. I will publish a solution and a new problem set next week.
We decided a time slot for office hours: Mondays at 11:00–12:00. During this time you can come to my office (room 1017 in Niels Henrik Abels hus), ask for help and discuss the problem sets.
I will update the schedule (/studier/emner/matnat/math/MAT4305/v23/timeplan/index.html#FOR) with a summary of what we have done in each lecture. (Please remind me if I forget!)
Best regards,
Ulrik
Welcome to the course MAT4305 – Partial Differential Equations and Sobolev Spaces.
We will mainly be using the book L. C. Evans – Partial Differential Equations (can be bought in Akademika). We will also go through a bit of distribution theory, which I will take from the book S Kesavan – Functional Analysis and Applications (send me an e-mail if you need access to it); alternatively, you can read Chapter 5 of W. Cheney – Analysis for Applied Mathematics (available for download on Springerlink).
Tentatively, the syllabus will be Chapter 5, 6 and 7.1 in Evans.
We will use a lot of measure theory and integration in Euclidean space, and some functional analysis. It's a good idea to have taken at least one course in PDEs (MAT3360 or MAT4301), and courses in measure theory and functional analysis (e.g. MAT3400). If you don't have this background then you should chec...
