The exam for each student will be based on one of the following four topics:
- Covariance functions for continuous spatial random fields: definitions, properties, and estimation
- Spatial point processes: definitions, first and second order properties, important summary statistics and models
- Spatio-temporal data analysis with empirical orthogonal function analysis, principal component analysis, and canonical correlation analysis
- Modelling univariate extremes with block maxima and peak over threshold approaches
The form of the exam is as follows: Each student has 25-30 minutes for the exam. 30 minutes prior to the exam, the student will draw one of the topics above at random. During the exam, the student will first give a 10-15 minute presentation of their topic (using the blackboard). Following the presentation, the student will be asked questions by the examiners. These questions will mainly focus on the topic of the presentation but may also cover some of the other topics listed above.
Aids: The student can bring with them one A4 sheet with notes for the presentation. You can use both sides of the sheet and you can choose whether it is handwritten or typed.
Language: The language of the exam may be English or Norwegian. If Norwegian is preferred, please inform the teacher beforehand.
