Course content
This course gives an introduction to systematic literature search and how to use EndNote or Reference Manager.
How to create a search strategy and choose the relevant databases. Special focus on searching Medline, The Cochrane Library and ISI Web of Science. Hands on exercises.
How to use EndNote to build a personal reference database and publish your manuscript. Downloading of references from Medline/PubMed, The Cochrane Library, ISI Web of Science and other sources. Generating a manuscript and a bibliography for publishing in Vancouver, APA, Harvard and other bibliographic formats. Hands on exercises.
Learning outcome
The participants will be familiar with the principles for systematic literature search and be able to plan and perform literature searches efficiently, exemplified by searching Medline, The Cochrane Library and ISI Web of Science. Participants will be familiar with the key functions of EndNote, a program for storing, retrieving and formatting references.
Admission
Ph.D. candidates and students at the Medical Student Research Programme will get first priority to the course. Maximum number of particpants is 24.
Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
No obligatory prerequisites beyond the minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway.
Teaching
The course will be held from 09.00 to 16.00

NB! You have to participate in at least 80 % of the teaching. Attendance at lectures will be registered.
Examination
The will be no course exam, but participation on the whole course is required.
