Course content
In this course we use general equilibrium models to study international trade, industrial structures, and structural change. The models are used to discuss and analyze the role of comparative advantage, trade and productivity differences for industrial structures, resource allocation, and welfare.
The course also provides a thorough introduction to game theory which we use to analyze competition in markets with imperfect competition and strategic behavior between firms. We analyze the impact of trade in markets with imperfect competition and how the gains from trade depend on market structures.

You can not attend this course if you have already passed specific ECON-courses at a higher level.
Students attending the Bachelor's programme in Mathematics: finance, insurance and economics with the field of study Mathematics and Economics?may be given priority in admission to this course if they apply for admission to the course in the first round of admission in June.
Recommended previous knowledge
- The course is based on prior knowledge in microeconomics, macroeconomics and mathematics corresponding to ECON2220 – Mikro?konomi 2, ECON1310 – Makro?konomi 1 and ECON1100 – Matematikk I. Students who do not have this prior knowledge, are advised not to take this course.

The assignment deadline will be specified in Canvas. If you submit your answer to the assignment, but do not pass, you may get another attempt. The new attempt will have a short deadline.

Absence from compulsory tuition activities:
If you are ill or have another valid reason for being absent from compulsory tuition activities, your absence may be approved or the compulsory activity may be postponed.
Access to teaching:
If your assignment is approved, this will be registered by the administration. You don’t have to resubmit the assignment if you wish to retake an exam.
Course responsible can at the beginning of the semester update the syllabus list by changing no more than three articles, though in a way that it will not change the overall scope or thematic content of the course.
The syllabus also includes any lecture notes that will be made available for the students in Canvas.
Examination
The examination will be a 3-hour written school exam.
The compulsory assignment must be approved in order to sit for the exam.

Language of examination
The examination text is given in English. You may submit your response in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.

Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
Resit an examination
