Increasingly, public policy results from decision processes that span several levels of governance systems. The course will highlight the relationship between the EU level and the national level regarding the formulation and implementation of policies. The role of institutions will be particularly emphasised in this respect, and analysed from various theoretical perspectives.

Learning outcome
By following this course you will get relatively advanced knowledge of how the EU's multi-level system of governance really works. By providing key analytical and theoretical tools, you will learn to interpret past, present and future events in EU politics in a professional manner.
Admission
The course is open to both Norwegian and international students. For international applicants: The courses offered in English are normally reserved for students on exchange programmes or bilateral agreements. Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
Bachelore's Degree programme in Political Science or European Studies.
Recommended previous knowledge
Bachelore's Degree programme in Political Science or European Studies.
Teaching
11 lectures will be given. On an individual basis you will be offered advice on a course paper or literature (10th week).
Examination
The form of assessment is a written essay (10-15 pages) and a 5 hours final exam. The essay and exam each count for 50%, and you will receive one overall grade for the course.
