PED2501 – Learning, Creativity and Innovation
Course content
Mastering concepts of creativity, learning and innovation - and how these are related - is the main aim of the course. The course introduces you to perspectives in different research traditions on learning and creative processes in individuals, groups, schools, organizations and cultures. The course also covers design-based research methods used in studies of creativity, learning and innovation in education, culture and business sectors. There is a focus on practical group activities, for example, planning, leading and evaluating creative processes.
Learning outcome
On completing the course you will have acquired
- knowledge of creative and innovative processes, their characteristics and psychological and societal conditions
- knowledge of theoretical models of creativity and innovation
- skills in fostering creativity in different disciplines through the pedagogical design of activities and environments
- skills in design-based research methods and their use in planning studies of learning and creativity
- competence in accounting for different perspectives and methods to foster, study and evaluate innovation
- competence in evaluating and understanding the conditions for fostering creativity and innovation in different practices

Formal prerequisite knowledge
There are no requirements beyond approval of formal admission qualifications.
Recommended previous knowledge
You should be in your second or third year of your bachelor program.
Teaching
In this course you will work alongside students at master`s level. The course will be taught using varied approaches. Two types of activities are central for this course:
- Lectures and whole class discussion (in class and online).
- Group activities involving practical assignments.
Compulsory Components
There are 2 compulsory assignments in the course. These assignments require your active participation in class. Each assignment forms the basis for a reflection paper of maximum 3 pages that is part of the exam.
1. Group assignment: Planning, leading and evaluating a creative process.
2. Group assignment: Planning, leading and evaluating a study using design-based research methods.
Guidelines and deadlines for the compulsory components will be provided at the beginning of the semester.
The reading list is approx. 750 pp.
Examination
The exam has three parts.
- Part 1: Individual reflection paper based on compulsory group assignment 1. Max 3 pages.
- Part 2: Individual reflection paper based on compulsory group assignment 2. Max 3 pages.
- Part 3: Home Exam 10-12 pages. The subject of the home exam will be announced at the start of the exam period.

Use of sources and citation
You should familiarize yourself with the rules that apply to?the use of sources and citations. If you violate the rules, you may be suspected of?cheating/attempted cheating.

All compulsory components must be approved before you may take the home exam.
Language of examination
You may write your examination paper in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

Grading of the Exam parts:
Part 1: The reflection paper counts for 25% of final grade.? 1 examiner
Part 2:The reflection paper counts for 25% of final grade.? 1 examiner
Part 3: The home exam counts for 50% of final grade. 2 examiners
Resit an examination
- If you have passed exam parts 1 and 2, you do not have to retake them to retake the Home Exam (see details below).
- If you fail exam part 1 or 2, you may apply to retake within the same semester.
- If you fail the Home Exam, normal rules for retake apply.

If you wish to retake the exam to improve your results, you can either
- Retake all 3 exam parts. This requires that you retake the whole course
Or
- Retake the Home Exam only. This requires that exam parts 1-2 have been passed.
