SNE4250 – Essay in Special Needs Education
Course content
Essay in Special Needs Education is an alternative course for students not admitted to the two-year master's programme but who want to take a full year's study within Special Needs Education at Master's level.
The course consists of an essay written on an individually selected topic related to the first four courses of the master's programme SNE4110 – Education for All, SNE4120 – Towards Inclusive Education, SNE4130 – Historical and Sociocultural Perspectives on Learning and Development and SNE4200 – Education for Learners with Special Needs or equivalent.
Learning outcome
The course offers acquirement of knowledge and insight based on literature studies and reflections in view of special needs educational practice.
Admission
Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.

Knowledge of English documented by one of the following or equivalent:
- Basic English from Upper Secondary School (videreg?ende), minimum grade 4 (Norwegian grading system)
- TOEFL examination with a minimum score of 550 (213 computer-based, 80 internet-based)
- IELTS examination with a minimum score of band 6

This course is offered as an alternative to research methodology - SNE4230 Research Methodology - for those students who are studying special needs education for one year only at master’s level.

Formal prerequisite knowledge

and enrolled on
SNE4200 – Education for Learners with Special Needs
Recommended previous knowledge
Motivation, research interests and professional practice will also be taken into consideration
Teaching
Individual advice: 3 hours, including support with choice and approval of topic. The topic must be approved by the adviser.
Reading: Individual literature study.
Examination
Essay: The essay should be 10 – 15 pages in length, including references.
Examination will take place at the end of every spring semester.
