Pleasant stay, amazing people and teachers, interesting courses but very demanding.
Nice landscapes but difficult roads to drive on when frozen/snowy/in the mountains/with wind and in the dark.
Housings are very hard to find, especially expensive and often disappointing.

Atmosphere and integration at the University are very good. People are amazing, the campus offers all what we need as students.
However, courses in social science are especially hard. Several papers per week to read and analyze with a lot of projects, oral exams and papers to write.
The city is small, super expensive, almost impossible to get a housing with student housings and you will often find only unsanitary and expensive rooms by yourself (~1100€ or more).
Hvorfor jeg valgte dette stedet
I was interested in Nordic history and culture, about landscapes of the country. The University of Iceland is also the best in Iceland.
Be careful, do not candidate if you come from Economics at UiO. I have only been told that they do not have Economic courses once I was accepted, and that other courses would not be validated once I was studying abroad.
Faglig
Arbeidsmengde og niv?
The teachers were sometimes international, sometimes professionals. Courses overall were very interesting and I learned a lot.
The workload is incredible. It is the 5th University I study in and I never experienced that. I would advice anyone to be ready to drop some social life if they want to study in the University of Iceland.
Undervisningsopplegg
You can take courses in English or in Icelandic.
Some courses are very demanding, with at least one oral presentation per week + monthly group oral / groups paper / groups project / final exam.

Praktisk
Mottak
The University of Iceland answers very quickly to emails and questions. They are all very kind and helpful. They organize as well mentor groups and activities at the beginning of the year so that everyone feels welcomed, safe and integrated.
Bosituasjon
You can try student housings, with a lot of luck you may be attributed a housing. Otherwise there is Housing Anywhere, be sure to save a room before July, nothing is posted after. You can try Facebook groups as well, be careful of scams, very rare to find a housing here as well.
Some students did not find anything and had to stay at the 40-beds dormitory in town for 1050€/month.
Personally, I shared a small and unhealthy garage for 1100€ each with a roommate.
Transport
There is quite a good bus system in Reykjavik. Student discounts are available if you ask the University for a code. It costs ~40€/month for students.
Otherwise the city is bike friendly.

Tips og kommentarer
Some teachers require to buy some books. It is sometimes possible to find a pdf version.
Some stores are very expensive. I would recommend to do groceries at Bonus where price is cheaper.
Sosialt
Spr?kevne
Everyone in Reykjavik speaks very good English.
Sosiale tilbud
Some activities are organized by the University at the beginning of each semester. They build also mentor groups with Icelandic students.
The University has a student bar in the cellar, with good prices and atmosphere, and activities sometimes (table football, film, karaoke, etc.)
Byen
There are a lot of low-fare concerts in town. Museums are nice overall. Coffee shops and libraries are very pleasant.
Nyttig ? vite
It does not really snow in Reykjavik, but the highlands can be very cold. Temperature can stay below -10 in Akureyri for a week or two, so be sure to take adequate layers with you.
