The new app
Innsikt Oslofjord is now designed in the same colors as the Frisk Oslofjord project home page. Have a look at the screenshots below for an impression of the app.

The new app contains two main panels: One for the school cruises and one for the fjord observatory, which is described here. Once students enter the school cruise panel, they can get a quick reminder of what has happened on the cruise and there are short explanations for the parameters that have been collected.

Then, the students can explore their own data (or choose any other cruise they are interested in). A map shows the cruise transect and location of sampling stations. Tables list the abiotic and biotic data that have been collected. The trawl data (species names and number of individuals per species) can be downloaded to csv or excel files for analysis. We suggested an exercise calculating a simple biodiversity index based on these trawl data. In the final tab, the students can experiment with some of the abiotic and biotic variables, e.g. plot plankton biomass over the cruise transect or over time.

In the results tab of the school cruise panel, the data from all available cruises are integrated into an overall map and time series plots. Here, the students can explore different regions of the fjord and compare the results of their own cruise. The time series are used to highlight differences between seasons and regions, but also to foster discussion of sampling methodology (in combination with exercises).

The application is currently accessible only to students at high schools involved in the project. If you are a student or researcher and would like access to the application, please feel free to contact us at contact@dscience.uio.no
